La Clusaz, France

La Clusaz, in the French Aravis Mountains, is one of the oldest ski resorts in France, with skiers holidaying here since 1907. Known for its 5 peaks, there is over 220km of skiing in the area (including the neighbouring resort of Grand Bornand, just 5 minutes away) with a large variety of piste and off-piste runs to suit all abilities. Just one hour from Geneva airport it is becoming more popular with Brits looking for a short ski break get away, as well as the more traditionally French and Swiss holidaymakers.

The snow record is good - being in the shadow of Mont Blanc it receives more snow then many resorts in the vicinity. La Clusaz has also put a lot of work into putting in new lifts and snow cannons, and reworking some of the pistes for better accessibility recently. Over the years La Clusaz has been home to many great skiers – including Olympic downhill champ, Regine Cavagnoud, Cross Country champion, Vincent Vittoz & X-games freestyler, Candide Thovex.

Resort worker Comments

"Best off piste – sector Balme which is a North Facing powder trap, well known amongst locals for its large bowl, natural kickers and acres and acres of uninterrupted off piste.

Best Bar – Salto – a lively sports bar at the bottom of the Cret du Merle lift, famous for its seasonaire nights on Wednesdays"
