Val Tignes, France

If you're at all worried about snow records, Tignes is the resort for you - one of the highest resorts in the Alps, it boasts excellent snow practically all year round and is the envy of many resorts worldwide for the 300 varied kilometres of piste that benefit from this nearly perennial snow cover.

Not a pretty resort but a fully modern one, Tignes has an excellent and diverse array of options for all skill levels. Its schools have glowing records and the beginners aspire to 'graduate' on a long, sweeping green run. There are enough blues and reds to challenge the most driven of intermediates, while experts return year after year for the black runs and the array of off-piste options available here.
